Summer Projects

As everyone knows, we love projects! This year we are working on transforming our backyard into a haven of rest and relaxation---you know, like in the Lowe's comercials! I don't think our expectations are for "Country Living" or "BH&G", but we are looking to finally have a little grass in our yard. The lumberjack guys were here yesterday and we had 5 trees removed. The birches in the back yard were over 70 feet tall, and when the wind blows the swaying was really a bit much. It was time for them to go. We also had a large fir that lost it's top a few years back during a big storm and it was leaning right toward our bedroom. After they removed the remaining branches, we were very surprised at how much it straightened up! I think it may have been the tree we were hearing moan in the dark of the night when the wind comes up.
Now for the real work. Stump digging!! The play area is moving up to Bellingham for our grandkids and we are working on a design that will make the backyard a little more liveable and inviting for us old folks. I'll keep you posted on the progress!

Here is some of the clearing that has been going on. I just have to keep an eye on the guys when they are working---I don't want it to get too tame looking out there! The birds and the squirrels need to have a place to hide from George!!

Memaw's Shoes

Nothing like trying on shoes! I think his clogs should be a bit smaller--for safety reasons. Hard to climb in floppy shoes!

Pretty is a Brand New Penny

As you can tell, she doesn't sleep all the time! And she has the cutest little smile. Penny is getting quite the personality. That's her new hat I made her. I just love having little girls around, everything looks better in Pink!!

Uncle Dave's Again?

This boy loves to eat! We went for our traditional Uncle Dave's breakfast. Theo ate everything in sight, Penny (she is the striped part of the photo) took a snooze. Good food, good fun!

Spring Visit

This week is Andy's Spring Break from school, so he and Sarah and the babies were here for a few days. They spent Sunday and Monday with us and on Sunday, Andy and Daniel, Nathan, Doug and Deryck and Michelle spent the afternoon at the Rainier's game--in the rain of course! It was a double header, but the second game became a rain out. It's hard to keep us baseball junkies down, but here in Washington sometimes the rain just wins out!

On Monday, we took Theo and Penny on their first visit to the zoo. Penny pretty much just snoozed through the entire trip, but Theo really seemed to enjoy himself. He also got a short ride on the carousel, he wasn't sure if it was really fun or not! He and Papa were swallowed by a shark, and we even got to see the tiger. It was a little drippy out, but we didn't let that stop us! We just went inside when it rained and outside when it didn't! Fun day.

When will the Sunshine return???

I'm starting to wonder if Spring is really here. I know us northwesterners are supposed to be accustomed to rain and gray skies, but come on now! Let's get on with the sunshine. Here are my tulips from Easter. I think they are missing the sun too! Hope I don't look this droopy!!

Pretty in Pink

Here is Miss Ashley practicing her twirls--don't you think she will be a pretty ballerina someday? One thing for certain, if it is pink, she will wear it! She is definitely our girly-girl.
